IRIS

IRIS (Internet Referral Information System) is a web-based patient referral system that incorporates a powerful in-line rule technology. Clients use sample rule sets provided by Proximare to tailor their own rules, which IRIS incorporates into the daily workflow. Rules are currently being used in a number of different ways:

  • Clarify the reasons for the referral
  • Patient condition specific dialog with the ordering provider
  • Identify and insure complete workup
  • Communicate standards of care in a community
  • Direct referrals to the most appropriate service
  • Match provider/payor acceptance before order placement
  • Assign priorities based on clinical conditions
  • Determine pre certification requirements
  • Identify and manage all documentation requirements

IRIS was developed to allow communities of providers to interact easily across enterprise boundaries by removing obstacles such as IT system incompatibilities, operational policies, and training procedures. IRIS is a fully HIPAA compliant service that only requires a workstation with Internet access and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or newer.

The intuitive design of the user interface capitalizes on the single mission design of IRIS. This has been a key factor in the rapid deployment of IRIS across thousands of users at multiple hosiptal specialty care centers with minimal formal training.

USER INTERFACE

At the heart of the IRIS design is an intuitive user interface that accommodates all skill levels. The user interface uses pull-down lists and fill-in-the-blank techniques. IRIS is built to run on web browsers like Internet Explorer 6.0 or newer.

INTERNET BASED

IRIS is designed to run using the Internet. A web-based system, IRIS ensures universal access and avoids equipment and associated installation fees.

SECURE WEBSITE

IRIS has been designed to be fully HIPAA compliant. The system uses 128 bit SSL encryption

CONTROLLED REFERRAL ORDERING

IRIS provides the ordering physician with a uniquely numbered confirmation for each referral order. Each order is individually tracked throughout its life. The audit log captures every interaction with User ID and a timestamp.

APPOINTMENT NOTIFICATION OPTIONS

Referring providers can be notified by fax or email. The choice is made individually by both the ordering location or the ordering physician.

In addition, IRIS has been built to interface with Intelligent Voice Response (IVR) units that permit the patient to be notified of their appointment by phone in any of several languages.

IRIS is built to handle all possible outcomes of the patient contact process, with appropriate reports being sent to the ordering physician and/or their site.

IRIS can return results of the consultation to the ordering provider directly, depending on the client’s ability to digitize the consult report.

ADAPTABILITY

IRIS is built to accommodate various clinic structures. This eases initial installation and, more importantly, ongoing maintenance.

IRIS provides a differentiated end user version tailored to the operational uniqueness of each end-user site.

N-TIER ARCHITECTURE

IRIS uses N-tier architecture to optimize processing performance at each point in the network.

POWERFUL MANAGEMENT REPORTING

IRIS provides management tools that enable:

• Real time tracking of response times
• Real time tracking of referral orders
• Reports on referral demand patterns of ordering providers
• Reports on demand for consultation and diagnostic procedures
• Tracking of rejection rates and reasons by ordering physician and clinics
• Real time view of order backlogs
• Internal department measurements
• Order inquiry

TRAINING SUPPORT
IRIS provides an embedded training tutorial for every user role and a separate training environment to support phased rollouts and additional training due to personnel turnover.

DATABASE DESIGN
IRIS is built on a sophisticated relational database and has been designed to provide database independence, making it portable between database systems
